Friends For The Community Grant

Heritage Family Cares 4 You Friends of the Foundation will be selecting the recipients of four (4) “Friends for the Community“ grants. These $5,000 grant awards, to local non-profit organizations that serve our communities, will be chosen by votes collected from the Friends of the Foundation membership between March 17, 2023 and March 31, 2023. The awardees will be announced at the 67th Annual Meeting of HFCU. You can still help support your favorite non-profit organizations throughout the year by supporting Heritage Family Cares 4 You and becoming a Friend of the Foundation!

The Organizations

  • Companions in Wholeness

    Companions In Wholeness has 3 programs it operates onsite. The Comfort Zone encompasses the hot breakfast Monday-Thursday and a small pantry, which is accessed daily from by our guests. Breaking Bread are the lunches/dinners served as take out during the breakfast time. Faith On Foot is volunteers walking throughout Rutland City once a week providing hygiene kits, meals ready to eat, water, sharing with those in need the resources available to them as well as a small used clothing “store” onsite with free clothing, blankets, sleeping bags, coats, shoes, socks, etc.

  • Northshire Day School

    Northshire Day School (NDS) cultivates a nurturing and inclusive community where children grow and thrive. For 55 years, NDS has provided exceptional early childhood education to area families in a safe and nurturing environment supporting learning through play. We are a five-star, licensed non-profit early childhood education center providing essential learning through play experiences for children six weeks through age 5. NDS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.

  • Rutland Community Cupboard

    We provide food to all individuals/families that are food insecure that meet our financial eligibility.

  • Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC)

    Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) is a multidisciplinary arts organization with a mission to promote and nurture the arts by providing opportunities for local and regional artists, introducing the wider community to artwork and performances of national relevance, and engaging diverse audiences to ensure programs are inclusive and accessible.

    SVAC offers year-round programming in the visual and performing arts to local residents in Vermont and visitors from across the country.

  • Upper Valley Habitat for Humanity

    Our mission is to build affordable, durable, safe, healthy, economical, and energy-efficient homes; strengthen and enrich communities; and increase long-term hope, prosperity, health, and the lives of families and individuals in the Upper Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire through the stability of affordable homeownership.

    Our vision is a world in which everyone has a decent place to live.

  • Vermont Achievement Center

    Through flexible, diverse and responsive programs, VAC provides a foundation of life skills to prepare individuals to reach their full potential as contributing members of society. The Vermont Achievement Center, Inc., a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization has been serving the needs of children and families throughout the Rutland region and Vermont since 1937. VAC continues to offer innovative and responsive programs in special education, early education and child care, as well as water safety and aqua therapy. In 1975, VAC opened the first therapy pool in Vermont, offering therapy and recreation opportunities to the general public.

  • Vermont Farmers Food Center

    The mission of the Vermont Farmers Food Center (VFFC) is to re-localize the regional food system through education, food access and infrastructure. We serve the farmers and communities in Rutland County and adjacent Vermont counties. By providing equitable availability to educational programs, local food access, and food system infrastructure support, VFFC facilitates the growth of a vibrant and regenerative regional agricultural system with capacity to: feed its citizens regardless of economic status; improve general health of the population; provide food system stability and resiliency and; add to the economic well-being of central and southwestern Vermont.

  • Walloomsac Theatre

    WRTC’s mission is to embrace and enrich community diversity among the performance arts, and promote accessibility and inclusivity for artists among Southern Vermont, the Berkshires, Rensselaer County, and other local areas.

    We strive to expose local communities to educational opportunities through performance art that both highlights and enriches local artists of all kinds. By collaborating with artists from local and surrounding areas, we cultivate and nurture an equal opportunity for the community to engage with the performance arts. WRTC presents 4 full-scale community productions a year to give the community an opportunity to perform every season of the year.
